Extra curricular activities

We pride ourselves on our friendliness. A group regularly meets after rehearsals at a pub.

We have an annual formal dinner at which about 100 attend and a speaker entertains us. In the last few years these have been:

  • Julian Lloyd Webber, renowned cellist and Principal of Birmingham Conservatiore
  • The Rt Hon Gisela Stuart MP (President of the choir from 2015)
  • Neil Mackie (renowned tenor and Patron of the choir)
  • Andrew Millington (Director of Music Exeter Cathedral and past temporary conductor of the choir)
  • Adrian Lucas (freelance conductor, organist, lecturer, broadcaster - and pilot!)
  • Sarah Walker (Radio 3 presenter)
  • Maggie Cotton (retired CBSO percussion player)
  • Tony Wass (recording engineer - Ninth Wave Audio - and member of the choir)
  • Jim Berrow (former Choir President)
  • John Joubert (composer and patron of the choir)
  • Chris Morley (music critic for the Birmingham Post)
  • Chris Hirons (leader of the former Birmingham Bach Orchestra)
  • Philip Head (retired violinist from the CBSO and manager of the former Birmingham Bach Orchestra for many years)
  • James Bowman (one of the world's leading counter tenors)

The choir goes on tour every few years: to Tuscany in May 2010, giving very successful concerts in Florence, San Gimignano and Montecatini, conducted on this occasion by Neil Ferris. In May 2013 the choir tour was back in Dresden, Germany.
