COMMISSIONS AND PREMIERES

The choir regularly performs and sometimes commissions new works.
Since 2014 one major choral symphony, two new Christmas pieces, various descants and one arrangement, by Paul Spicer plus one new piece by Eleanor Alberga have been given their first performances by the Choir:

Now is the time of Christmas
Commissioned by Michael Palmer, first performed on 20 December 2015. - Paul Spicer.

Descants to Hark the Herald, Come thou Redeemer, Hark a thrilling voice is sounded, O come all ye faithful, While shepherds watched, Once in Royal David’s city, It came upon the midnight clear and O little town of Bethlehem – Paul Spicer.
Commissioned by Merryn Lloyd, first performed in December 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2019.

Silent Night - arrangement with tenor solo – Paul Spicer.
Commissioned by Merryn Lloyd, first performed on 21 December 2014.

A Shared Singing – Paul Spicer.
Commissioned by Kate Crocker, first performed on 13 September 2014 (with Unfinished Remembering).

Unfinished Remembering – Paul Spicer.
Commissioned by Birmingham Bach Choir with financial assistance from The John Feeney Charitable Trust, first performed on 13 September 2014.
